Amigo Friendship Program

Amigo Friendship volunteers are local Atlanta families and individuals who extend friendship to an Atlanta area international student on a one-to-one or small group basis. This is a commitment to friendship, not to house the student.  You may let us know if you have any preferences for an international student from a particular school, country, or continent, and we will do our best to keep those in mind when we match you with an Amigo international student. To learn more about AMIS and international friendship, visit our blog, "Stories of AMIS".

New from 2019: All NEW volunteers must complete a simple, online background check.

AMIS has been wonderful for our family. My sons have had dinner with international students from every continent of the world through AMIS.

                                                    -Kirk Keene, Volunteer

The students deeply enriched my life. I always received much more than I gave from befriending international students.

                                                    -Jean Cox, Volunteer

As an Amigo volunteer, your commitment is to:

  1. Email, call or text the student to tell them that you are their friend in the city.

  2. Invite your student out for a meal in a public and mutually convenient location or attend a community event together.  Group gatherings in a home are fine.

  3. Keep in touch and continue the friendship with visits, calls, or emails as you both have time and opportunity.
